Parents Hack 4 - Facing Problems & Life Challenges

Helping your child face problems rather than feel defeated by them

What Your Child is Learning

In Hack 4, your child is learning that some difficulties are problems we can solve, while others are longer-term life challenges that we may need to learn to manage. They're using SODAS to think through possible solutions, exploring acceptance when something cannot simply be changed, and learning how the Mind Maze can keep us trapped in endless thinking. The aim is to help them face difficulty with greater confidence and flexibility.

Are we too quick to solve our children's problems?

Try This At Home

If your child keeps going over the same questions,“Why did this happen?” “What if I'd done something differently?” - try asking: “Is thinking about this again actually helping, or are you getting stuck in the Mind Maze?” The aim isn't to push feelings away. It's to help them notice when endless thinking is making the problem bigger rather than helping them move forward.
