Helping your child manage pressure without being overwhelmed by it
Stress is an unavoidable part of life. In Hack 3, your child is learning the Seven S's for managing it: identifying stressors, responding to Stressful Negative Thoughts (SNTs), structuring time, soothing breathing, separating needs from wants, seeking support, and using smiling and laughter. The aim isn't to create a stress-free life, but to help them know what to do when stress shows up.
Does your child have too much to do, or does everything feel like it has to be done?
When your child says, “Everything is stressing me out!”, try making a Stress List together. Write each stressor down separately. What feels like one enormous swirl of spaghetti can become several smaller, clearer problems. You don't necessarily need to solve them all- simply separating them can make “everything” feel more manageable.
