Parents Hack 11 - Me Myself and I

Helping your child develop a healthier view of themselves

What Your Child is Learning

In Hack 11, your child is exploring self-worth and learning to develop a more balanced and realistic view of themselves. They're identifying strengths and positive qualities, challenging negative labels, perfectionism and comparison, and learning to speak to themselves more like they would speak to a good friend. The goal isn't “I'm amazing at everything”, but: “I'm not perfect. I have strengths and struggles. And I'm still someone worth standing by.”

What does your child think you notice about them?

Try This At Home

Try a strength-spotting week. Once a day, notice one specific quality in your child and say it out loud. Not generic praise like “You're amazing”, but something real: “That was kind of.” “You admitted you were wrong - that was mature.” “You were nervous and still did it, that was brave.” Help them notice qualities such as kindness, honesty, determination, loyalty, responsibility and willingness to learn.
